Tanzanite Jewelery and Accessories: Indigo Gem Shoes!
Nowadays ultramarine tanzanite is the biggest craze of many celebrities who are radiant with the beauty of their tanzanite embellished accessories whenever they have a possibility. Among the celebs charmed with this incredibly beautiful semiprecious stone are Elle MacPherson, Damon Dash, Salma Hayek and Teri Hatcher.
Tanzanite has a fabulous changeable color (the stone plays from indigo and violet to magenta) and excels today brilliant in price. Its price varies from 3,000 to 4,400 dollars per carat. The sky-high price is due to the tanzanite’s rarity as its reserves are discovered only in Tanzania.
Manuel de Sousa, a Portuguese prospector, was the first to discover this semiprecious stone in 1967 when he was trying to find true rubies in that area together with one of the local tribes. At first he took the stone for sapphire but later a gemological analysis was carried out and it was established that it was light blue variety of zoisite.
This terrific semiprecious stone was named tanzanite during the marketing action of the firm Tiffany &Co. An idea to rename the stone occurred to Henry Plat, the vice president of Tiffany &Co, as he thought that ‘zoisite’ is very consonant to ‘suicide’. Tiffany &Co dainty pieces of jewelry enchased with tanzanite created a real furore in 1980s and still go a long way among the jet set. The cost of the accessories enchased with this fascinating stone increases year by year.
Tanzanit is considered to be almost the best ‘sapphire substitute’ and no doubt is the best value for money – even better than brilliants. The point is that prospecting for new tanzanite deposits has got nowhere. According to the geologists’ estimations, as little as 25 years are left to run down the tanzanite reserves. Catch the opportunity! =)
Tanzanite Foundation is the leading organization for quality control of tanzanite items. I would like to present you a real gem designed by Stuart Weitzman and Le Via – silvery strap sandals encrusted with 185 carat tanzanite and 28 carat brilliants! Super cute, aren’t they?
