Architectural shoes have always drawn attention of shoe designers and fashion lovers. And not without reason. Such footwear is conceptual and extraordinary. It doesn’t follow any fashion rules and trends. It is just a result of unlimited designer’s imagination.

Today I would like to take a good look at a shoe masterpiece created by Julian Hakes, a British architect. Julian designed an unusual sandal following architecture principles. Don’t feel confused if you haven’t spotted shoe shapes at first sight. It is normal. And now look carefully at the model and you will see in these smooth lines a toe, a heel, an instep – everything but a sole.

You will definitely consider such a creation to be crazy because it has nothing in common with reality. But precisely this idea is not new or unbelievably unpractical. Just remember Dolce & Gabbana collection for S/S 2009. It was then that a shoe without a sole appeared for the first time. The models presented by Dolce & Gabbana brand featured a platform and a high wide heel but the central part of the sole was missing.

After looking through shoe trends and innivations, Julian Hakes made a conclusion that walking in high heeled shoes it is enough to have a support on a heel and a toe. So the central part has no sense and practical necessity. According to Julian Hakes’ words, the work on this concept had much in common with a bridge designing. The sandal is made of rubber, leather and carbonic fiber.

This masterpiece has a beautiful and exotic name Mojito. The question is could these shoes be worn. Why not? We saw models going in incredible sole-less sandals from Celine or Dolce & Gabbana. The thing is comfort of such footwear. I would personally like to try on any of these architectural models.

There are cases when two different brands show surprisingly similar designer decisions. And if such brands are considered trendsetters so it is essential to take a good look at their ideas because they are quite possible to become a new fashion trend.
In Spring – Sumer 2010 collection presented by Calvin Klein the emphasis was made on quite unusual shoes. Well, it is not Surrealistic Shoes but they have obviously drawn attention of fashion society. Calvin Klein shoes for the next season remind ancient footwear that can be perfectly matched with ancient Egypt suits. But at the same time the footwear looks modern and even a bit futuristic, especially the ones made of silver colored leather.

S/S 2010 Trend: Horizontal Platform
The main thing to pay attention to in the collection is low almost horizontal platform. So that the whole image doesn’t look heavy designers decided to make the upper from thin straps. If you look closely you will see that the platform is cut at the front and rare side to make the shoe look lighter.

And now let’s take a look at another collection with the same features. I am talking about Marc by Marc Jacobs. The collection also features silver shoes but these ones don’t have open toe. A fastener on the ankle was replaced by laces. What both collections have in common is low horizontal platform. Nevertheless, they have a considerable difference. Marc Jacobs shoes feature a pretty low heel. Well, do these shoes remind ancient footwear as well?

S/S 2010 Trend: Horizontal Platform
There is no doubt, both Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs shoes presented for Spring – Summer 2010 have certain likeness, though both brands have managed to create unique style. What is no less important, there is an obvious tendency to comfort. Low and steady platform, low heels prove that. Well, we have plenty of time to decide what to choose the season to come.
