Flip-Flops Are as Harmful as Heels!!!
Justin Shroyer, an assistant professor of kinesiology at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette has made a sensational discovery. He has been studying for more than a hundred people who regularly wear flip flops. The aim of the investigation was to find out how the most popular and comfortable footwear affects our feet.

His findings were that when one wears flip-flops, the muscles on the front of the shins, or tibialis anterior, work harder than they do when people are barefoot. The reason of the increased muscle activity is when we wear flip flops the toes try to grip the shoe to keep it in place. Besides, this sort of footwear shortens your stride length and can cause pain in your lower legs.

The number of diseases caused by our favorite flip flops is unbelievable and shocking. Among short-term issues related to flip-flop use would be heel and arch pain, tendinitis, shin splints, sprains, splinters, cuts, and toe injuries. Long-term problems might be stress fractures, bunions, hammertoes, and neuromas. It makes me shiver to think about it. And to top it off, I cannot understand why I rejected heels, as wearing flip flops result as harmful as wearing 3 inch heels.

Most physicians advise that if one cannot do without wearing flip flops, the more the shoe conforms to your foot, the better off your foot and leg will be. Remember that the wider the straps, the better. Also, try to get a sandal with a back strap. Back straps take some of the stress off your toes and decrease the demand for them to work so hard.

No doubt, the studying of Justin Shroyer is sensational. Experts say that as comfortable as flip flops are, we should limit its use to a few hours a day as well as heels. And do not disregard foot exercises no matter if you wear flats, sneakers or high heels.

Celebrity Flip Flops Can Save Lives
Flip flop.. what is in that word for us? Well, in fact, this shoe type is by far one of the most enjoyable footwear types by all men and women around the world. Just think about it! They are indispensable at the beach, they are good for walking (and shopping for that matter), they come in the widest every variety of colors, prints and styles. By the looks of it, flip flops are just there to make us happy.
Surprisingly enough, today flip flops can also save lives. All it takes is for a number of famous designers to unite for the common purpose. And that is exactly what happened with Paul Smith, Manolo Blahnik, Mathew Williamson, Naomi Campbel, Alec Beck and the famous flip flop brand – Havaianas, who decided to jointly fight child’s cancer. The product of this union is an exclusive collection of flip flops that is expected to be available in stores starting July 15th.
As a matter of fact, Havaianas is famous for initially being a footwear brand producing rubber flip flops for the poorer part of Brazilian population. However after a couple of decades these shoes have become popular not only among the poor, but among the other population strata as well. This feature makes flip flops by Havaianas somehow similar to the jeans culture in the US - as you know, jeans where first worn primarily by the plant workers, but became a highly fashionable item throughout the world later on. So, that is how flip flops became an item of fashion.
The exclusive collection by the designers will be soon exhibited at the London supermarket Selfridges on Oxford Street. The flip flops will be available for sale at the supermarket’s website, where customers will be able to purchase them up untill July 26th. All the profit from the sale will be contributed to the charity fund on fighting children cancer.
