Zipper flats

Weird as it may sound, but zippers really seem to be taking over the world. In fact, we can witness a lot of world famous designers turning to that little element in both, clothes and footwear design. Although, we do have to be honest here, this collection is not only notable in it’s zipper accessorizing – there is plenty of other things to focus on.

On the one side, the flats look pretty conventional – there are no outstanding details in terms of shapes or soles, or anything else. We have to admit, that if there is one shoe type, that has been explored and designed in a variety of kinds and colors , that would be flats. Yet, something does make the shoe somehow different from all of it analogues.

First of all, the color choice is a definite head turner. The shades chosen by the designer are very tender and feminine. While not so special on their own, together they create an almost tangible feeling of femininity. Instead of the already usual pink and blue, the designer goes with orange and pale flesh color.

Another unsurpassed and unique feature of the shoe is of course the zippers. The designer’s move is surprising in its innovation and bold in its freshness. Another shock is that the zipper actually does work. It’s not there for decoration only, and can be easily closed and open if needed. This looks like a brilliant solution, as the shoe can be worn by people with different width of feet. Closing or opening the zipper is all it takes to adjust the fit.

When looking at the shoe, one thinks the masterpiece must have been created by a woman. But that is, in fact, not true. The innovation belongs to the male designer Francisco Miranda aka Tooco. But then again, who, if not men, really do know what women want?!
