Celebrity Flip Flops Can Save Lives
Flip flop.. what is in that word for us? Well, in fact, this shoe type is by far one of the most enjoyable footwear types by all men and women around the world. Just think about it! They are indispensable at the beach, they are good for walking (and shopping for that matter), they come in the widest every variety of colors, prints and styles. By the looks of it, flip flops are just there to make us happy.
Surprisingly enough, today flip flops can also save lives. All it takes is for a number of famous designers to unite for the common purpose. And that is exactly what happened with Paul Smith, Manolo Blahnik, Mathew Williamson, Naomi Campbel, Alec Beck and the famous flip flop brand – Havaianas, who decided to jointly fight child’s cancer. The product of this union is an exclusive collection of flip flops that is expected to be available in stores starting July 15th.
As a matter of fact, Havaianas is famous for initially being a footwear brand producing rubber flip flops for the poorer part of Brazilian population. However after a couple of decades these shoes have become popular not only among the poor, but among the other population strata as well. This feature makes flip flops by Havaianas somehow similar to the jeans culture in the US - as you know, jeans where first worn primarily by the plant workers, but became a highly fashionable item throughout the world later on. So, that is how flip flops became an item of fashion.
The exclusive collection by the designers will be soon exhibited at the London supermarket Selfridges on Oxford Street. The flip flops will be available for sale at the supermarket’s website, where customers will be able to purchase them up untill July 26th. All the profit from the sale will be contributed to the charity fund on fighting children cancer.

Manolo Blahnik Footwear
‘Many consider shoes to be just shoes, but if they make a woman happier at least for several minutes, they seem to mean more than mere shoes…’ says Manolo Blahnik.
Nearly 80 pairs of shoes per day are manufactured mostly manually at Manolo Blahnik’s works in Italy. The designer has always been an adherent of tradition and high quality, that’s why he works only with real masters who know their trade.
Blahnik as before is not going to switch to mass production, to manufacture more affordable footwear collections or to try to satisfy totally the demand for his shoes. A limited quantity of the manufactured shoes styles lays stress on their exclusive designs and makes the most famous fashion-conscious women burn with the desire to buy these very shoes.
The footwear designed by Manolo Blahnik is a piece of art made especially for the selected few.
And the feeling of joining the elite when buying another pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes makes this brand world-known and desired. It is anything but a secret that sometimes a woman has to forget about comfort when she has Manolo Blahnik shoes on. However, the pleasure that women take in putting on Manolo Blahnik shoes is akin to the erotic one.
In childhood Manolo was merged into the atmosphere of high fashion. His parents bought their clothes from famous fashion designers of those days. His mother was of a Spanish origin and his father was from Czechoslovakia. There were a lot of films and literature on fashion industry in their house. Manolo Blahnik’s destiny was predetermined.
In 1968 Manolo got a job at one of the boutiques in Paris. The grandiose ideas regarding his first collection were maturing in his mind. Two years later he moved to London on invitation of Zapanta store owner. This way a famous shoemaker launched his career.
But he didn’t become a celebrity at once. As late as 1973 Blahnik decided to be self-employed and set up a men footwear boutique. The first Manolo Blahnik’s collecton was a tremendous success and soon the most famous fashion houses like PERRY ELLIS, CALVIN KLEIN, JEAN MUIR, ZANDRA RHODES, YVES St. LAURENT, CHRISTIAN DIOR, RIFAT OZBEK snowed their orders on Manolo Blahnik. However, soon Mamolo realized that there were too many limitations and too little flight of imagination in designing of men footwear and he switched to women shoes design.
It sounds that Blahnik has a gift for creation footwear that becomes a cult. Everyone knows that high-heeled shoes had existed long before him, but it was he who glorified the shoes with pointed toes and 4in. high heels that are an eternal hit.
Carrie Bradshaw’s Favorite Shoemaker
‘I have been a shoemaker for more than twenty years and, believe me, every pair should be perfect. Only then it will be a desired one. Don’t tell me that I make dreams come true. I’m just a hardworking shoemaker that has such qualities as discipline and perfectionism.
Freedom is very important for me. I mean the freedom to do whatever you want and to be dependent on no one. When I become bored, I will stop my business. But it will ever happen.
I don’t like all the buzz about my name. Sometimes I ask myself why I have joined all this madness: my life is far from glamour. But on the other side, I realize that it is the only way to manage business nowadays.’
Sarah Jessica Parker that starred as Carrie Bradshaw in movie ‘Sex and the City’ has mentioned the name of Manolo Blahnik so often that it has already become a cult name. Once Madonna said, ‘Manolo Blahnik shoes are even better than sex.’ His shoes are perfect: beautiful and comfortable. None of the big words about Manolo Blahnik is an exaggeration. Manolo Blahnik was awarded the title of Commander of the British Empire by Elizabeth II for his service in the British fashion industry.
To create his models Manolo Blahnik uses various materials and bright, unusual colors allowing fashion-conscious women to choose something up to their taste. Manolo Blahnik high-heeled shoes will turn any woman into a bird arousing everybody’s admiration. Manolo Blahnik says, ‘The most important are a last and a heel. If something is wrong with them, a woman will fall.’ That’s why he pays a lot of attention to the comfort of shoes.
Recently Manolo Blahnik has designed a collection of men shoes. It includes only six models of shoes and among them are shoes made of red suede, open-toe and sabot shoes. Manolo Blahnik is the man who has raised women to a dizzy height and now men can enjoy the comfort of Manolo Blahnik shoes too.
