Flip flop.. what is in that word for us? Well, in fact, this shoe type is by far one of the most enjoyable footwear types by all men and women around the world. Just think about it! They are indispensable at the beach, they are good for walking (and shopping for that matter), they come in the widest every variety of colors, prints and styles. By the looks of it, flip flops are just there to make us happy.
Surprisingly enough, today flip flops can also save lives. All it takes is for a number of famous designers to unite for the common purpose. And that is exactly what happened with Paul Smith, Manolo Blahnik, Mathew Williamson, Naomi Campbel, Alec Beck and the famous flip flop brand – Havaianas, who decided to jointly fight child’s cancer. The product of this union is an exclusive collection of flip flops that is expected to be available in stores starting July 15th.
As a matter of fact, Havaianas is famous for initially being a footwear brand producing rubber flip flops for the poorer part of Brazilian population. However after a couple of decades these shoes have become popular not only among the poor, but among the other population strata as well. This feature makes flip flops by Havaianas somehow similar to the jeans culture in the US - as you know, jeans where first worn primarily by the plant workers, but became a highly fashionable item throughout the world later on. So, that is how flip flops became an item of fashion.
The exclusive collection by the designers will be soon exhibited at the London supermarket Selfridges on Oxford Street. The flip flops will be available for sale at the supermarket’s website, where customers will be able to purchase them up untill July 26th. All the profit from the sale will be contributed to the charity fund on fighting children cancer.

“We try to live every one of our days like if it were a holiday” – This is the philosophy of Penny and Kenny, designers and founders of Penny Loves Kenny family footwear brand. And one must say, that the two successfully manage to really live their lives according to this motto – the shoe styles offered by the designers are really infectious in their positive spirit.
Penny and Kenny are very optimistic and unsophisticated people, which is probably why all of their original shoe styles turn out to carry this special cheerful and happy feel in them. The shoes are varied in colors and materials with a nice selection for just about every occasion life has to offer.
The peculiar feature that makes the shoes by Penny Loves Kenny so different from all the other shoes out there is that light airiness, so intangible and so appreciable in every design of the brand.
According to designers themselves, they believe that personal style is a way of self-expression. That’s why Penny and Kenny especially value individuality and uniqueness, trying to make every shoe exclusive and inimitable in its design. The main focus of the artists is the color and decoration of every pair. Some think, that that is why the shoes are so popular among teenagers, whose main objective often times is purely standing out of the crowd.
For example, Penny Loves Kenny shoe collections abound in suede boots of the brightest and least expected colors. Such footwear can act as a great anti-depressant, when the sky is gray and the weather is not too generous for sunlight and natural colors.
We have already mentioned before, that Penny and Kenny like to use all kinds of materials for making their footwear: we can find shoes made of all sorts of leather, suede, velor, plastic, etc. Some of the shoes are made of colorful leather patches.
Penny Loves Kenny collections also includes funny flats, sandals, flip-flops, boots, high heeled shoes and other kinds of footwear.

Wellingtons - Well-in-Tones!

History has it, that the first rubber shoes (or their analogues) to have been invented came from American Indians, who coated their footwear with rubber tree juice. The south-American creation then traveled to Europe, where the first galoshes saw the light in the 19th century. Some say, that the first patent for this kind of shoes was issued to someone named Radly. Galoshes trend did not last long - the shoes, although helping to prevent wet feet, were rather uncomfortable. The reason was simple - they were made of rubber, which gets really sticky in the sunny weather, and cracks easily when exposed to frost.
The next step towards wet feet protection was made in the early 19th century, and gave birth to the type of shoe referred to as Wellington boot, or a wellie (also topboot, gumboot and rainboot). The footwear received its name after the 1st Duke of Wellington, who was the first person to wear and popularize the boots.
In the initial stages of their existence the shoes fulfilled more of a practical objective. They were (and, in fact, remain up to the present moment) especially popular among workers and farmers, who work under wet and dirty conditions.
However, although retaining their original purpose, Wellingtons have now moved on to being another fancy accessory in our wardrobe. They come in a variety of colors and types and are being offered by a number of world class footwear brands, like Lacrosse, Timberland, Dr. Martens, John Deere and many others. They are being worn by men and women, kids and elderly in many countries of the world. And may be that, indeed, is the way forward - simplicity and practicality are at times better than sophistication and beauty. Just think about it, do those high heels really make you look all that beautiful when it’s raining and/or snowing heavily?
