T imbs, Timbos or Timmies – these are the pet names for Timberland boots, popular both among professional sportsmen and travelers and among those who seek for adventure and quality mixed together. Today the company has three main locations – in Danville, Kentucky; Stratham, New Hampshire and Ontario, California – and beside this, thousands of passionate lovers all over the world.

 The Timberland company was founded in 1918 in Boston, and the founder’s name is Nathan Swartz. However, the company’s name appeared only after 55 years, and the company was named after a line of waterproofed boots, that appeared to be an unbelievable success. The secret layed in a special technology of water-proofing, developed by the Swartz family. Since that time Timberland began to grow in popularity. In 1980s the company started to conquer international markets – the first one was Italian. Nowadays the company produces not only boots, but also clothes, backpacks and even toys- everything for active rest, and everything of the highest quality. The expansion went further in 2006, when Timbeland bought a Welsh clothing company called howies and a skateboard-shoes company Ipath.

 Though designed for cycling or mountaineering, Timberland casual shoes remain an item of fashion. Probably that’s why CNN Money named Timberland among 100 of the wealthiest companies of the world. However, the company does not rest in pride - it is well known for its charity, e.g. work with young people and nature as well. Timberland managed to present 170 projects with over 9,000 volunteers during the latest Earth Day.
