The history of the Birkis brand dates back to the year of 1993. It was founded in Germany by Stephan Birkenstock. The family of Birkenstock is known for manufacturing shoes for many centuries. The first mentioning about Birkenstock family was in the year of 1774 when Johann Adam Birkenstock, a German shoe manufacturer, started the business. So the family began passing it on from one generation to another.
Today Stephan Birkenstock is General Manager and representative of the clan. The company is famous for contoured cork and rubber foot beds which provide maximum comfort, high quality and durability.
The first Birkis footwear line included sandals made of ALPRO®-foam (PU) with molded footbeds. In 1995 the company invented the way of directed molding which made the shoes even more quality, durable and comfortable.
In 1999 the line Fun Birki was launched. Its distinctive feature was using featherlight ALPRO®-cell. Later on, in 2004, the company developed models with adjustable details.
In 2007 the Soft Footbed line appeared. It was based on anatomically molded cork-latex center made for maximum comfort and perfect fit.
