Ben Sherman is a British company producing shirts, shoes, trousers and other items. The company was set up as early as 1963 by Arthur Bernard Sherman. In 1946 Sherman immigrated in U.S. where he got married to the daughter of a Californian clothing manufacturer.
In the year of 1963 Ben Sherman began manufacturing his shirts that gained world recognition at once. The reason was the shirts featured a button down collar, a back pleat and a loop. The clothes became especially popular among mods, skinheads and rockers. In 1964 Ben Sherman opened the Carnaby Street store.
In the year of 1967 the company moved to London and became one of the biggest clothing brands in England. The first Sherman’s female collection appeared in the same year. The company’s popularity was growing very fast so it started to open new stores throughout Northern Ireland.
The years of 70s were very significant for Ben Sherman brand. There was a great demand for the goods so the company kept growing.
The brand is famous for its popularity among musicians and singers. In the beginning of the 21th century Ben Sherman launched kid and female collections. Later on, in 2004 the brand opened the first store in U.S., in New York. Today, there are stores in Los Angeles and Las Vegas as well. By the way, the company was an official sponsor of the Olympic Squad in 2004.
