It was as early as 1970s when George Henry Bass acquired the shares of a local footwear manufacturer and started his career in shoe industry. The owner’s name became the name of the company as well - G.H. Bass & Co.

During World War I Bass shoes were specially manufactures for the need of the U.S. Army. Later on during World War II the company developed cold-weather boots for the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army.
As early as 1960s Bass created first summer sandals Sunjuns. Then in 1968 George Henry Bass bought Burgess Shoe Stores which were given the name of Bass Factory Outlets. So the net of offices and stores went extending over the world.
The shoe line Weejuns has become popular among celebrities. Let’s remember, for example, James Dean’s love to them or white socks and black Weejuns in one of Michael Jackson videos.
