As early as 1920s, the members of the Dassler family that lived in Herzogenaurach, a town in Germany, decided to set up their own small shoemaking business. The brothers – Adi and Rudolf - made shoes under the directions of their father, whereas their mother and sisters did their utmost to help.

Later the brothers agreed to allocate the responsibilities: Rudi assumed the marketing stuff and Adi was responsible for production process, as well as for design of new footwear styles. In 1924, the brothers established Dassler Brothers shoe factory. Canvas shoes along with cleats became the main production of the new shoe factory.

With the outbreak of the Second World War the shoe factory was confiscated from the Dassler family and the brothers had to go to war. However, one year later one of the brothers - Adi Dassler - was brought back to Herzogenaurach to manufacture the footwear for German soldiers. Meanwhile Rudi was put into prisoner-of-war camp.

When Rudi was released from the camp, the brothers had to start their shoe business from scratch. Even though they worked together again, it was a real strain for them. Finally, the brothers decided to demerge their company into two separate companies. They agreed not to give their companies the name of the old company, as well as not to use its logo. Adi named his company Addas and Rudi - Ruda, but only two months later Addas was renamed into Adidas which was the abbreviation for Adi Dassler. Later on Ruda became Puma.

It was Adi who nevertheless broke the said agreement: he added one more stripe to the old logo that consisted of two stripes and took out a patent for this. Since then Puma and Adidas have been brand competitors. From the past to the present Adidas shoes have always attracted people of all ages like a magnet They are really the best investment in shoes.
